POW! WOW! began in Hong Kong in 2009 and turned Kaka'ako, then a faded industrial district, into the base of an international mural network. By the festival's fifth Hawai'i year, Vhils carved one of its 'common people' into a warehouse wall, adding text to his portrait method. An ordinary person rises from the same industrial fabric that the festival was reclaiming from abandonment.
