Scratching the Surface Project, Tudela, Spain

Tudela was founded under Muslim rule and later held a Jewish aljama that survived the Christian conquest before expulsion and forced conversion erased that community from public life. Avant Garde Urbano's fourth edition brought Vhils to the neglected historic centre from 30 September to 4 October 2013. Cutting an unnamed face through an old wall's layers recalls the Muslim and Jewish communities removed from the town's visible history.
