Embellir names Vhils' carved portrait on the low perimeter wall of Hôpital Lariboisière, at the corner of rue Ambroise Paré and rue Guy Patin, Paris. Titled Scratching the Surface, it won the City of Paris's 2019 “Embellir Paris” open call — 711 applications for about 20 sites, 21 winners — and was carved on site in September 2019, cutting an anonymous woman's face from the wall's own render.
