Embassy of Portugal in China — 2017, Beijing, China

Situated within the grounds of the Portuguese Embassy in Beijing, this intervention was carved in June 2017 on the gable façade of a villa inside the embassy compound in Sanlitun, during the artist's stay in the city for Imprint, his solo exhibition at the CAFA Art Museum, Beijing (30 June – 23 July 2017). The portrait is interwoven with a geometric relief inspired by the azulejo, translating a Portuguese visual tradition into the subtractive language that defines Vhils's work. Documented by José Pando Lucas and by architectural photographer Fernando Guerra (FG+SG).
