Scratching the Surface Project 2026 — Atlético CP

For MAAT + Atlético — a partnership between the MAAT museum and Atlético Clube de Portugal curated by João Pinharanda, bringing permanent artworks to the historic Estádio da Tapadinha in Alcântara — Vhils carved a bas-relief mural across the stadium’s main façade, some 50 to 80 metres long. Excavating the outer cladding of the wall, the work reveals the faces of figures from different generations of the club’s 80-year history, drawn from conversations with the Atlético community: among them Vítor Domingues, Maria da Luz Jerónimo, Álvaro Roxo, Germano de Figueiredo and Ben David, alongside historical scenes and the club’s emblem. Unveiled on 17 July 2026 together with Joana Vasconcelos’ “Solitário #3” and Bela Silva’s “Dança na Relva”.
