Passage 46, Theater Freiburg

At Bertoldstraße 46 in Freiburg im Breisgau, Vhils carved directly into the plaster walls behind the bar at Theater Freiburg's Passage 46 — formerly the Jackson-Pollock-Bar — for its 2014 opening, translating the language of Scratching the Surface into a permanent interior built for music, performance and social encounter. The relief portraits trace the building's shift from bar to cultural venue, folding traces of human presence into a space designed for gathering. Installed as part of the theatre's wider renovation and coordinated by Henrik Springmann, the work was documented by Badische Zeitung, which photographed Vhils on site in September 2014.
