At 9N North Street in downtown Fort Smith, Arkansas, this mural for the inaugural edition of The Unexpected in 2015, curated by Justkids, is based on early photographs of Native Americans, among the region's first recorded inhabitants. Installed in a city shaped by the frontier and the neighbouring Indian Territory, the work sets that overlooked presence back into public space and points to the layers of history beneath the city's current identity.
