Carved directly into the weathered brick facade of Detroit's Eastern Market in 2014, this large-scale portrait emerges through layers of plaster and exposed masonry, fragmented by geometric patterning that dissolves into the figure's features. Working subtractively with chisels and controlled removal, Vhils embeds the anonymous face in the historic district's working surfaces, framing the city's post-industrial fabric as both archive and material.
