Carved into the Municipal Library of Mindelo, this portrait honours Cesária Évora in the city where her voice and musical identity were formed. Vhils integrates her image into a public building devoted to knowledge and cultural transmission, not a conventional monument. Emerging directly from the wall, the portrait becomes part of Mindelo's everyday landscape, acknowledging an artist whose interpretation of morna carried Cape Verdean culture far beyond the archipelago while remaining deeply rooted in São Vicente.
