This portrait of Amílcar Cabral was carved into the exterior of Escola Secundária Achada Grande Frente in Praia, in 2019, through the Xalabas Urban Art Programme. Placing one of the central figures of Cape Verdean and Guinea-Bissauan independence on a school building connects his political legacy with younger generations and with a neighbourhood that the programme sought to revalue through art. The work does not treat Cabral as a distant monument, but returns his image to a living civic context shaped by education, community and the continuing construction of national identity.
