Off the coast of Albufeira, EDP Art Reef submerges thirteen sculptures made from materials recovered from decommissioned coal-fired power stations. Commissioned by EDP and completed in 2023, the project functions simultaneously as a permanent underwater exhibition and the foundation of a new artificial reef. Structures once tied to energy production are gradually colonised and reshaped by marine life: from the moment of submersion, corrosion, sediment and biological growth continue the work beyond the artist's control.
