Viva la Revolución

Viva la Revolución: A Dialogue with the Urban Landscape was a group exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, 18 July 2010 to 2 January 2011, gathering twenty artists from eight countries whose work draws on the codes and icons of the urban environment. Alexandre Farto (Vhils) showed the carved brick-and-plaster wall portrait Scratching the Surface (2010), plus two untitled torn-poster street portraits at 1202 Kettner Boulevard and at 11th Avenue and Broadway, and a further torn-poster portrait on a downtown wall shared with Dr Lakra and Persue. His pieces are made by chiselling and tearing away layers of the wall to reveal anonymous portraits. Curated by Pedro Alonzo, guest curator, with Lucía Sanromán, MCASD Associate Curator.
