Leonardo

Leonardo (2015) is a traditional wooden fishing boat, some twelve metres long (registration PD 483-L), that worked out of Rabo de Peixe, São Miguel, Azores, for over fifty years. Holed and destined for scrapping, it was saved by Vhils during the Walk & Talk Azores festival: over five days at the local boatyard, he and his team hand-carved and reassembled it, building a makeshift cabin from old carved doors bearing excavated portraits and working the hull through layers of green and blue paint into geometric patterns. Old fishing boat and assorted pieces of wood, hand-carved and assembled, approx. 450 × 1100 × 400 cm. It stood at the town's port as a tribute to its fishing community, and was later dismantled.
