Portrait of the French artist JR, a peer of the urban-art generation, made in 2022 in the artist's layered-poster language. A halftone likeness — eyeglasses, stubble, steady gaze — emerges from strata of torn advertising posters, patterned papers and colour fields, with ragged edges exposing the layers beneath. The studio documentation records the composition as a set of twelve permutations, photographed through sequential states from a blank mass of white poster layers to the fully revealed portrait. It belongs to a 2022 series of portraits of cultural figures that also includes Steve Aoki, Madonna, Diplo, Dillon Francis and David Grutman.
