Fenestra / Galeria Vera Cortês

This exhibition was the culmination of a project Vhils began developing in 2016, shooting everyday street views in cities where he worked all over the world, including Beijing, Cincinnati, Hong Kong, Lisbon, Los Angeles, Macau, Mexico City, Paris, and Shanghai, among others.

The footage was transformed into an immersive installation entitled “City Slow Motion”, where the viewer was catapulted into an amalgamation of different cities creating inevitable interactions with their anonymous inhabitants, atmospheres, architectures, and cultures. Forcing those who entered into a slowed-down version of urban reality, the installation produced a confrontation with ideas and concepts of time and space, leading to an experience that could be simultaneously uncomfortable and soothing, while raising awareness about the effect we have on our surroundings, and that they, in turn, have on us.
