This portrait of José Saramago was carved into the stone platform at Paimogo beach, Lourinhã, on the day he would have turned 98. Set at the point where land meets sea, the work draws on the writer's lasting relationship with Portugal, exposed to tides, weather and time as the sea reshapes it. The intervention was developed with the support of Pilar del Río, the José Saramago Foundation and filmmaker Miguel Gonçalves Mendes.
