Vhils returned to the school he once attended to carve this portrait of Zeca Afonso, executed on 26–27 March 2014 with the participation of students for the fiftieth anniversary of Escola Secundária Dr. José Afonso, in Seixal — the musician whose name has defined the school's identity ever since. The date also marked the fortieth anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, tying the portrait to the music that became inseparable from Portugal's democratic history. Carved directly into the building as a durable relief, it has remained in place for more than a decade and is now the school's defining landmark.
