Open Studio

Welcoming all art lovers, professionals and the public at large, we open the doors of the Hong Kong studio of Portuguese visual artist Alexandre Farto aka Vhils.
Presenting some of his current work and projects, this is a unique opportunity to take a look behind the scenes and experience first-hand the creative atmosphere where the artist created theartworks presented in his 2016 solo exhibition for Hong Kong Contemporary Art (HOCA) Foundation, as well as several recent commissions and public art interventions in Hong Kong, Macau, Beijing, Shanghai, Bangkok, Penang, and Papeete, among others.
Renowned for his signature visual language based on the removal of the surface layers of walls and other media with unconventional tools and techniques, Vhils’ practice seeks to reflect on the nature of contemporary urban societies, the impact of urbanity, development and growing homogenisation on landscapes and people’s identities around the world, constituting a significant statement on the present-day human condition.
Vhils has presented his work in over 30 countries around the world in solo and group exhibitions, site-specific art interventions, events and art projects in various contexts – from working with communities in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, to collaborations with reputed artistic and museological institutions such as the EDP Foundation (Lisbon), Centre Pompidou (Paris), Barbican Centre (London), CAFA Art Museum (Beijing), or the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (San Diego), among others. An avid experimentalist, besides his groundbreaking bas-relief carving technique, Vhils has been developing his personal aesthetics in a plurality of media, from stencil painting to metal etching, from pyrotechnic explosions and video to sculptural installations. He has also directed several music videos and short films.

工作室開放日

各位藝術愛好者、專業人士及大眾，您們好！我們將會開放來自葡萄牙的專名藝術家 Alexandre Farto 又名 Vhils 的工作室予大眾參觀。
當日會展出他的近期作品，並讓大家近距離目睹藝術家的工作環境，是個千載難逢的機會一覽作品背後的製作花絮。其中包括他在2016 年為香港現代藝術基金會 (Hong Kong Contemporary Art Foundation, HOCA) 創作的首個香港個人展覽的展品，以及其他受邀製作的藝術品和多個在不同城市，例如︰香港、澳門、北京、上海、曼谷、檳城和巴比提等等的公共藝術裝置。
Vhils 以自己獨創的視覺語言聞名於世，建基於自創的雕琢技巧，應用在多種物料之上。Vhils 取材自時下城市的特質，反映城市發展對周邊的影響。人、事、物皆受城市化影響，多個城市的面貌統一化，同時改變了全球大眾的身份，於現今人類生活裡扮演著一個重要角色。
Vhils 在全球多達三十個國家展出過個人或集體展覽、場域特定藝術裝置 (site-specific art installations) 、大型藝術活動及企劃。其中由里約熱內盧的貧民窟社區合作計劃，以至多個成名機構邀請不等，例如龐比度博物館 (巴黎)、巴比肯藝術中心 (倫敦)、中央美術學院美術館 (北京)、聖地牙哥當代藝術館 (聖地牙哥) 等等。作為一位實驗主義者，除了獨特的雕琢技巧，Vhils也在探索多樣藝術範疇，當中包含模板畫和金屬蝕刻，煙火爆炸以至錄像及雕塑。他亦曾監製多個音樂錄影及短片。
