Liberdade — Portugal, lugar de encontros (8 February – 10 May 2024 at UCCLA; 15 February – 15 April 2024 at CCCV) was the visual-arts component of the 50-year commemoration of the 25 de Abril revolution, presented by UCCLA in partnership with Centro Cultural de Cabo Verde and the Embassy of Cape Verde in Portugal. Curated by João Pinharanda, the show presented 28 contemporary artists from countries that officially express themselves in Portuguese — artists for whom Portugal has been or continues to be a place of encounter, work and dialogue. The works span photography, drawing, installation, sculpture and azulejo, addressing liberty, anti-colonial spirit, identity, and the spiritual/cultural/literary influences of the lusophone world.
